Proofreading Services
What Is Proofreading?
Proofreading is usually the last step before publication and provides an invaluable last set of eyes on the work.
Proofreading is the process of reviewing written products -- from book manuscripts to blogs to websites to marketing materials -- for typos, grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors, and consistent formatting.
As I know from decades as an academic and college professor, our ability to review our own work is limited by what our brain expects to see on the page or screen. And as useful as they can be, AI tools (such as spelling and grammar software) are limited in important ways.
Another human who can put fresh eyes on your work and is trained to identify errors and preserve the tone of your writing is essential to producing a more polished outcome.

Work With Me
I would love to assist you in creating your best work through proofreading!
I am particularly committed to supporting writers who may be disadvantaged by and experience hurdles in publishing or academia.
When you use the contact link above, you’ll be asked to provide some basic details about your project, such as word count and due date. If I am available to meet your needs, I’ll send you a work agreement that specifies the terms of the work and payment.
In general, I expect payment in installments of 50% in advance and 50% upon completion of my work. I am open to discussing a different payment schedule if your financial circumstances require.
For longer projects, I am willing to proofread a sample of your work (up to 1000 words) in advance of signing the work agreement.
About Jen
I’m a certified freelance proofreader who would love to support your writing practice!
As a social scientist and former college professor, I have decades of experience reading, writing, and reviewing professional articles and student papers. I'm also an avid reader of non-fiction (particularly science-based motivational self-help and biographies) and fiction (with a fondness for fun mysteries and rom-coms) books.
I know that your work is immensely important to you. I also know that many writers experience institutional obstacles to their success. It would be a pleasure to help you get your work across the finish line so that your readers can benefit from your unique voice and all that you have to share with them.
